The Ultimate Burger Club

UX/UI Case Study

The Ultimate Burger Club is a UX/UI case study focused on designing a modern and engaging website for a burger brand. The goal of this project was to create a visually appealing and easy-to-navigate interface that highlights menu items and improves the overall user experience.

One of the main challenges was balancing strong visual design with usability, ensuring that users could quickly browse the menu without feeling overwhelmed.

Background

Timeline

January 1st-25th 2024

Platform

Desktop Website

Tools

Figma/ Indesign

In the spring semester of 2024, our web development class was tasked with creating a comprehensive website as a final project. The project aimed to apply our learned skills in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and web design principles. Our team decided to create "The Ultimate Burger Club," a website dedicated to burger enthusiasts, featuring recipes, reviews, and a community forum.

Target Audience

Teenagers and young adults (ages 16–30) who frequently browse or order food online.

User Needs:

  • Fast and easy navigation

  • Visually appealing layouts

  • Clear menu organization

  • Minimal effort to find items

Context of Use:
Users are typically browsing on desktop or mobile devices, often looking for quick decisions when choosing food.

Overview

"The Ultimate Burger Club" website was designed to be the go-to resource for burger lovers. It featured sections for burger recipes, restaurant reviews, user-submitted content, and a community forum for discussions. The goal was to create an engaging and interactive platform that catered to burger aficionados' diverse interests.

Responsibilities

Project Manager (Me): Coordinated team efforts, managed timelines, and ensured milestones were met.

Lead Developer: Oversaw the technical implementation, including coding and integrating interactive features.

UI/UX Designer: Designed the website's layout, ensuring it was user-friendly and visually appealing.

Content Creator: Developed and curated content, including recipes, reviews, and blog posts.

Quality Assurance Tester: Conducted testing to identify and fix bugs, ensuring a smooth user experience

Problem/ Solution

Problem: One of the main challenges we faced was creating a seamless user experience that balanced rich content with fast load times. Users expected visually appealing pages with high-quality images and interactive elements, but these features often slowed down the site.

Solution: We optimized images using modern compression techniques and implemented lazy loading to ensure that content loaded only when needed. Additionally, we used a content delivery network (CDN) to distribute content efficiently, resulting in faster load times without sacrificing quality.

Understanding Users Needs

To ensure the website met our target audience's needs, we conducted a survey among burger enthusiasts. Key findings included:

Users wanted a variety of burger recipes, including vegan and vegetarian options.

Restaurant reviews needed to be detailed and honest, focusing on different aspects such as taste, ambiance, and service.

A community forum where users could share their experiences and tips was highly desired
